So as soon as I got the email from Mick asking me to contribute a thought to a book he was creating for em's birthday...(It was her big 3-0)... I immediately set about thinking on it! We had been friends for more than 10 years now and all of the emotions about this friendship stirred within me as I pondered what it was I would write that night. The next morning I sat up straight in bed and reached for one of my journals that I always keep right by my bed and started scribbling madly! The words, feelings and emotions spilled onto the page with barely a scribble out.....10 years in the making yet barely 10 minutes in the scribbling....let me share it with you...
her tie-dyed self called out to me to come and join her dance
so bold was she - so brave - so free to wear quite such attire
she cared not for conformity! within her burned a fire
to walk to the beat of her own drum; to carve out her own way
to not play life safe within four walls but across the world with art and paint and play!
and with her brave self calling me i stepped up to the floor
and danced with wild abandon as i'd never done before
for as she danced to her own beat it helped me to find mine
for such a friend inspires growth and gives allowance for you to shine
for when one shines so brightly it's light is cast around
and that part of you lost in the dark can suddenly be found
and sometimes we may not both dance in complete synchronicity
but i know when my steps falter she'll come dance right next to me
for there is imperfection and evermore there'll be
and many might not like my dance and that's alright with me
for i'm not in this dance alone no matter the miles apart
we spin and twirl along life's road entwined in each other's heart
